The four parts that affect racket feel

Most padel rackets are built from four material areas. The face is the hitting surface and has a major effect on touch and ball output. The core is the foam inside the racket, which determines much of the comfort and response. The frame gives the racket its structure and durability, while the surface finish can add texture and influence spin.

No single material is automatically better. A stiff carbon face can be excellent for a confident attacking player, but it may feel harsh to someone who is still learning to find the centre of the racket. A softer fibreglass model can make defensive shots easier, though it may offer less precision when you swing hard.

You will often see labels such as 3K, 12K, 18K or 24K carbon. The number refers to the number of carbon filaments grouped in each strand of the weave. Carbon suits players who generate their own swing speed and want reliable response on aggressive shots. The trade-off is comfort. A very rigid carbon face can feel less forgiving on off-centre contact and may send more vibration into the arm if the core is also hard.

Fibreglass faces: comfort and easy ball output

Fibreglass is more flexible than carbon. That added flex creates a softer feel and helps the racket return the ball with less effort, especially on slower shots from the back of the court. For beginners, this can make padel feel easier straight away.

It simply serves a different type of player.

Mixed faces: a useful middle ground

Some rackets combine carbon and fibreglass, or use carbon reinforcements over a softer base. These models aim to balance comfort with stability. They can work very well for improving players who want more structure than a full fibreglass racket but are not ready for the stiffest carbon options.

If you are unsure between a soft beginner racket and a demanding performance model, a mixed construction is often worth considering. It gives you room to progress without making every mishit feel punishing.

EVA foam cores: soft, medium and hard

Frames: why carbon reinforcement matters

You may also see terms such as 3D texture, spin finish or rough relief. These names differ between brands, but the practical question stays the same: does the racket’s overall feel suit your game? More texture will not compensate for a shape or balance that feels difficult to control.

Match materials to your level and style

Beginners usually benefit from fibreglass or mixed faces paired with soft or medium EVA. This combination provides comfort, a larger sense of forgiveness and easy ball output. A round, low-balance racket with these materials is often the least stressful way to build confidence.

Intermediate players have more options. If you are improving your volleying and want greater accuracy, a carbon or mixed face with medium EVA can be an excellent step forward. Hybrid-shaped rackets are particularly useful here because they offer a blend of control and accessible power.

Advanced players can make better use of rigid carbon faces, firmer EVA and carbon frame construction. These materials can provide the fast, precise response needed for aggressive net play and powerful overheads. However, the best advanced racket is not always the hardest one. A control-focused player may still prefer medium foam and a more manageable balance.

Your arm comfort matters too. If you have had elbow, wrist or shoulder discomfort, avoid choosing the stiffest construction simply because it is marketed as professional-level. A softer core, more flexible face and sensible weight can make playing far more enjoyable.
